delay in loading content in edit mode+issue
Sometimes (no pattern yet) noticing 4-5 seconds wait for content to appear after the rest has loaded in edit mode.

Yeah, the issue there is loading *css.css. I'm hoping that will get faster once we get memcache working (which is a pre-release todo). And I'm very confident it will once we get *css using the same kind of optimizations that the built-in assets (css, javascript, images) and uploads are using, but that's a bit more involved and probably won't be in before 1.9.
